About Us

Because we love pets too... We started making our own pet food because we understand the unique relationship between people and pets. Ever since we created our first bestselling pet book, we’ve been reading your stories—sharing your laughter, tears and, most importantly, your love for your pets. Mealtime is one of those special moments when we all connect with our pets. That’s why we say that “food is more than just nutrition, it’s also about comfort, love and appreciation.” Making wholesome and balanced pet food is part of our mission to share happiness, inspiration and wellness in everything we do, so that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, Chicken Soup for the Soul is “always there for you™.” And of course, there’s a great pet story from one of our books on every package.

Because food is more than just nutrition… We make our pet food for your pets and ours. It’s specially formulated to provide the nutrition they need at every stage of life. We have food for kittens and puppies, for adult pets, for animals that need to lose weight, and for older dogs and cats. All of our food is made with a blend of several meats, fruits, vegetables and grains, so that your pets get all the nutrition they need. You can check out our ingredients here.

Because it’s important to give back, we use adopted pets as our models… A number of us at Chicken Soup for the Soul have adopted animals from shelters. So, when it came time to shoot the photos for our new pet food packaging, we had an idea. Instead of paying for “professional” pet models, we donated money to a local shelter and featured some of their cats and dogs, ones that had recently found their "forever homes." On the back of each package, you can read about the rescue dog or cat pictured on the front. Check out all of Riley's Rescues here.

Because we use all our products to give back to animals and people too… Improving the world around us is part of Chicken Soup for the Soul's mission of sharing happiness, inspiration and wellness through everything we do. Today we focus our philanthropic activities through several initiatives. A portion of all Chicken Soup for the Soul sales goes to literacy, hunger and animal welfare programs that we work on with our charitable partner, the Humpty Dumpty Institute. You can learn more about our work with Humpty Dumpty by clicking here. We also donate Chicken Soup for the Soul pet food and pet books to rescue shelters and to people adopting new pets. The royalties from certain of our books go to other charitable organizations, including the Alzheimer's Association, the American Humane Association, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, A World Fit For Kids, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, and Cancer Schmancer. Our Commitment to Animals

We publish books about pets and produce a line of high quality dog and cat food because we understand the special bond between people and animals. We also know that some of the most meaningful owner-pet relationships begin with adoptions from shelters, which is why we've partnered with animal shelters to support their mission to help find cats and dogs their forever homes. To help promote the health and well being of animals everywhere a portion of all of the proceeds from the sale of our pet food is donated through the Humpty Dumpty Institute to support its animal care programs.

"Feed a Pet in Need"
An initiative of the Humpty Dumpty Institute

CSS_HDI_Animals_Egg_FINAL.pngA portion of all proceeds from the sale of our pet food goes to The Humpty Dumpty Institute to help support organizations that feed and care for animals in shelters or in crisis. Donations also go to support programs to provide service animals for those who need them. We also sponsor important programs like the American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards. The Pet Adoption Program

In July 2014 we partnered with the Animal Foundation in Las Vegas to promote the adoption of dogs and cats from their shelter. Everyone who adopted a dog or cat in late July and August went home with not only a new family member, but also with a copy of one of our bestselling dog or cat books. We also helped to raise awareness about the Animal Foundation and pet adoption through TV appearances, newspaper interviews, and online columns and articles. The program was such a success that every single cat in the shelter was adopted in one week—all 255 of them. Since then, we've taken the same program to other shelters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno, Stockton and San Diego. But in the case of the California shelters, we gave away 60,000 pounds of dog and cat food as well, feeding the animals in the shelters and also sending adoptive families home with a big bag of dog or cat food for their new family member!
